March is for Mars
March is named after the Roman god Mars, the second most important deity in the Roman pantheon—only Jupiter, his father, was more significant. Mars’s mother was Juno, and he had several consorts, including Bellona, Nerio, and Venus. He fathered the Cupids with Venus. He married Anna Perenna. Despite his status, Mars was not always benevolent; he is famously said to have raped the Vestal Virgin Rhea Silvia, from whom he fathered Romulus and Remus—the twin founders of Rome. We’re teaming up with others to host contests within the Heathen Hook community. Prizes may include Heathen Hook merch, books, and more.
Content is actively being written, but keep in mind the Board of Directors (BOD) and Joar Bard — who’s managing all the programming — are juggling multiple responsibilities. Updates are ongoing; some will be visible, others may not be immediately apparent.

Holidays, Event, Celebrations
Summer Nights (Norse/Heathen): April 1 – April 17, 2026. This marks the start of the “summer” season in some Scandinavian traditions.
Veneralia (Roman): April 1. A festival honoring Venus Verticordia and Fortuna Virilis.
Iroquois Thunder Ceremony: April 3. Celebrates the return of thunder and rain to awaken the earth.
Megalenses/Ludi Megalenses (Roman): April 4. A festival honoring the Mother Goddess Cybele, often featuring theatrical plays.
Full Moon (Pink Moon): April 1, 2026.
Fordicidia (Roman): April 15. A festival of fertility honoring Tellus & Ceres.
Sigrblot/Sumarsdag (Norse/Heathen): April 15. The first day of summer in Scandinavian tradition.
Celtic Month of Willow: April 15 – May 12.
Floralia (Roman): Late April. A festival honoring Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring, usually lasting several days.
Ostara (Ends approx. April 2): While typically aligned with the Equinox in late March, some traditions continue celebrating this spring equinox festival into early April, focusing on fertility, nature’s rebirth, and goddesses like Frigga and Freya.
Ragnar Lodbrok Day (Approx. April 14, or Easter Sunday): Observed by some Asatru groups to honor the legendary Viking figure who raided Paris, often timed with early spring.
Walpurgis Night / May Blót (April 30 – May 1): Known as Majblot in some Scandinavian traditions (often held in late April/early May), this is a major fire festival held on the eve of May Day (May Eve), focusing on bonfires and honoring deities like Freyr and Thor.
